To create a goal, navigate to Insights on your sidebar and select the Goals tab. You can also search “goals” using the search bar. You can then select the +Add goal button to begin.
When setting your goal, articulate the mission your team aims to achieve. You should clearly define the success criteria of the goal to ensure that every subsequent task and project aligns with this overarching goal.
When creating a goal, you will need to:
- Choose a name that describes the outcome of the goal
- Assign the goal to an owner and select a team that is accountable for the completion of the goal
- Choose a time period when the goal will be completed
- Decide on the goal’s privacy level and add members
- Choose how you would like to measure the goal’s progress

Linking tasks and projects to your goal
Linking work with goals ensures that each goal is connected with your team's tasks and projects. By doing so, individuals can see how their work impacts the overall goal and supports the company's mission. Learn more about progress, status, and connecting work to goals with this article.
Linking from goals
Connecting goals to work provides clarity about its progress and status and the work that's contributed to your goal. When creating your goal, you can choose from the automatic or manual method to measure progress.
From the Add goal window, select your preferred update method (automatic or manual). If you choose the manual method, you can edit progress from the goal’s detail page; click Edit progress settings and edit the current value. If you choose the automatic method, you can connect sub-goals, projects, or tasks from the goal’s details page.
Linking from projects
On the project overview tab, scroll to Connected goals. Here, you can either create a goal to connect your work to or connect the project to an existing goal.
Sharing progress on goals
Goals status updates ensure team members and stakeholders have a shared understanding of the goal’s progress. This is important as it can help clarify any doubts and encourage open dialogue, fostering a collaborative working environment.
Status updates also serve to demonstrate accountability and enable teams to proactively respond to any challenges, allow for adjustments in time, resource allocation, celebrate achievements, and serve as a valuable resource for future reference.
To create a goal’s status update for the first time:
- Select the goal you want to update
- You can choose one of three statuses: On track, At risk, and Off track
- Write a name for your status update and add information about the goal’s progress below
- You can add new sections, remove and edit existing ones
- You can set an update status reminder to weekly, biweekly, monthly, or quarterly
- You can see how many people will be notified about your status update
- Select Post to send the update
